The 3rd annual prestigious Africa Magic Viewers Choice award which held on Sunday 7th of March at Eko Hotel &Suites indeed created a big buzz on the showbiz scene as events from the star studded gathering has become a much talked about topic of discuss all over the social media.
The most spectacular part of the live broadcast show hosted by IK Osakioduwaand Vimbai Mutinhiri was the red carpet.Anchored by BBA Uti Nwachukwu and Tv presenter Eku Edewor,that very vital segment of the award was set ablaze with reverberating fashion statements from elegant,exceptional,edgy to outrageous and virtually all the stars rocked indigenous designer brands.leading the pec were Nollywood trail blazers Genevieve Nnaji who simply stood out in her Orange fitted lovely gown designed by Elvira Jude.Delectable diva Rita Dominic settled for a glam look in her Lanre Da Silva Shimmering Ivory mixed with red flowing gown with a very high slit.Star actress Kate Henshaw shone in a bright yellow custom made gown by a designer called Needlepoint.Newly turned 40 year old screen diva Monalisa Chinda pulled off a sexy look in a navy blue gown by TaiBeni. Greatly endowed OAP Toolz wrapped up her provocative curves in an Adrianna Papell ash colour dress styled by 360 Degrees styles.Pretty mother of 2 , Oge Okoye flaunted her svelte figure in a black and pink ball room gown designed by AyoVanElmar, so also popular designer Toyin Lawani who looked like a goddess in her custom made black fitted long gown designed by her famous fashion outfit Tiannah Styling.tv host Eku Edewor who co anchored the red carpet segment alongside Uti Nwachukwu dazzled in a teal colour Clan Diaries designed gown and she wasn’t the only stylish lady adorned in that unique shade of green,as the red carpet came alive in beautifully designed green gowns. Among the stars who opted for the colour of life were Star actress Funke Akindele. The movie star whose fashion sense plummeted a couple of months back hasn’t lost her track at all. She was adorned in a breath taking green and nude colour outfit styled by Yolanda Okereke.Fast rising acts Lilian Esoro and AMVCA winner Linda Ejiofor also dazzled in green outfits, the former designed by Tiannah Styling.Gorgeous Toke Makinwa looked resplendent in her white lovely gown by Pastiche couture.Other stylish female celebrities who turned heads at award ceremony were the likes of Lanre Da Silva, Emmy Nyra, Omawumi Akinifesi , Mide Martins, Kehinde Bankole,Ini Edo,Ufoma Ejenobor, Ogechi Asiegbu,Thelma Okoduwa, Oluchi Onwuagba,Ireti Doyle, Iyabo Ojo Mabel Makun,Lola Maja, Zizi Cardow, Helen Paul and the list is endless.The guys were not left out as they reveled in tux and African attire.After the red carpet frenzy, a short cocktail followed and the event started with an African performance by a group of dancers led by actress Osas Ighodaro.Anchored by the duo of Ik Osakioduwa and BBA Vimbai, it was a fusion of award presentation and entertainment.The event saw outstanding achievements in African film and TV recognised with awards presented to CJ Obasi as the TrailBlazer of the Year while the late renowned filmmaker, Amaka Igwe was honoured with the Industry Merit award. The winner of the trailblazer award walked away with a luxurious diamond studded watch, courtesy Chris Aire. The coveted New Era award was given to Ayo Makun for exceptional talent.
However, the night’s biggest winner was undoubtedly theNigerian psychological thriller October 1 which scooped nine awards including Best Movie and Best Director for Kunle Afolayan and Best Actress (Drama) award for Kehinde Bankole.
Other notable winners included Nollywood romantic drama,The Meeting which nabbed five awards including Best Movie (Comedy) awards for Rita Dominic and Mildred Okwo, Best Actress (Comedy) for Rita Dominic and a Best Actor (Comedy) award for Femi Jacobs.
The choice of the night’s winners fell to respected judges drawn from the African film and Television industry. The winners of the closely contested categories included The Meeting for Best Movie (Comedy), A Place in the Stars for Best Movie (Drama), Femi Jacobs for Best Actor in a Comedy (Movie/TV Series), a Best Actor in a Drama (Movie/TV Series) award for OC Ukeje in Confusion Na Wawhile Rita Dominic walked away with the Best Actress in a Comedy (Movie/TV Series). Kehinde Bankole scooped the Best Actress in a Drama (Movie/TV Series) award whileBlossom Chukwujekwu walked away with the Best Supporting Actor (Movie/TV Series) and Linda Ejiofor wonthe Best Supporting Actress (Movie/TV Series) award.
During the event, viewers were wowed by performances by Osas Ighodaro, the Mavins Crew, Tuface Idibia and Lola Rae, Diamond Platinumz, and P-Square who closed off the event with an electrifying performance that made the night unforgettable. The star-studded ceremony also includedAfrica’s finest, clad in stylish gowns and suits to rival any fashion ramp. Some of the Africa’s film and television stars who took to the red carpet amidst the flashing lights and interview ready camera crews included Genevieve Nnaji, Uti Nwachukwu, Linda Ejiofor amongst others. The third annual AMVCAs ceremony presented 33 coveted gold statuettes in 30 categories, tabulated and verified by auditing firm SizweNtsalubaGobodo and were telecast live to 50 African countries watching on DStv and GOtv on all Africa Magic channels.
