It was a night of glitz and glamour on Friday,12th Februray,2015,at the Lagos Oriental Hotel, Lekki when movie star Rita Dominic and film maker Mildred Okwo premiered their second movie titled SURULERE, “Patience Pays” amidst a select audience of high profile celebrities from the entertainment and corporate sectors. From the classy ambience, array of stars and mind blowing performances by top music acts, the African Glam themed event lived up to billing.City People Head of Movie Desk VIVIAN ONUORAH was there.
ABOUT THE MOVIE SURULERE
Since the news of the release and world premiere of the highly anticipated romantic comedy movie Surulere was announced, many have been eager to see the movie and for those who were privileged to attend the world premiere, they left with utmost satisfaction as rents of laughter filled the room from the beginning to the end of movie. . From the stable of The Audrey Silva Company, the movie SUrulere has hit the cinemas and the duo of Rita Dominic and Mildred Okwo whose first movie The Meeting got a lot of positive review, did take the notch higher with their new flick Surulere .The movie is a romantic comedy which tells patience and resilience is about a young man Arinze (Seun Ajayi) whose chance meeting with a beautiful woman Omosigho (Beverly Naya) causes him to explore a ‘get rich quick’ idea to solve his financial problems. The movie ‘Surulere’ shot in Lagos features Eyinna Nwigwe, kemi Lala Akinoju, AMVCA winner Tope Tedela, Gregory Ojefua, Linda Ejiofor and screen goddess Rita Dominic. The story was written by Richard Odilu, produced by Mildred Okwo and Rita Dominic.It is currently on cinemas all over the nation.
RITA DOMINIC WAS THE BELLE OF THE NIGHT
Give it to the ever stylish and gorgeous actress Rita Dominic, she sure has a way of garnering all the attention to herself with her fashion style and alluring looks. The movie stR dazzled in a multi coloured fitted gown by top designer Jewel By Lisa, and wore her million braids in an amazing style. She completely stole the show as the paparazzi and her colleagues swarm around her all through the night. She shone all night as she welcomed her guests.. The love shown her by her colleagues was over whelming and she did acknowledge in same vein. The movie Surulere is her second attempt at production under the Audrey Silva Company she co owns with her manger and it didn’t fall short of expectations. Also present to support her were top representatives from Keystone Bank and Zaron,as she represents both brands.
WHY KATE HENSHAW STOOD OUT
Veteran star actress Kate Henshaw may have spent over 2 decades in Nollywood but she sure doesn’t look it. The passion driven fitness coach cum actress is a good friend of Rita and as such ,you are bound to see the duo together at all times. At the event, she stood out in a navy blue sexy Dansiki that gave her an elegant look. The outfit is designed by a wave making designer popularly known as Bunmi.With her new looks and slim figure, the pretty actress will sure pass for a teenager. She had fun all night with and was seen chating happily with some of her colleagues.
OMOTOLA JALADE EKEHINDE BREEZED IN
Right when everyone was seated in the modestly decorated hall that sparkled in white and silver, an imposing figure sauntered in, dressed in a flowing red dress. It was delectable star actress Omotola Jalade Ekehinde and all gazes drifted to her .She exchanged pleasantries with veteran actors Olu Jacobs and Joke Silva,and finally settled beside Mike Ezuruonye,after sharing a hearty hug with the host Rita Dominic. She stayed till the end of event but boycotted the after party.
ZAPHIRE EVENT AT HER BEST
Mrs Funke Bucknor Obruthe is a house hold name in events in Nigeria and her outfit Zaphire Events is synonymous with high profile events. She brought her professionalism to fore at the world premiere of Surulere ,and her trademark long girls always stationed at the entry of every event were right at the entrance of the hall to welcome guests. Her pretty ushers were adorned in different styles of attractive traditional outfits, in line with the dress code of the event.
THE RED CARPET RAZMATAZZ
The red carpet had every major TV entertainment hosts from different channels on ground from Silverbird,Ait,Galaxy, Jara and lots more. The red carpet session held in a well illuminated enclosure that had flashlights rotating from all sides, the back drop of the movie bearing different stars that featured in the movie served as the barricade. Right beside the red carpet were two attractive dessert points..One was a tree of assorted fruits ,right beside a chocolate fountain ,with variety of snacks, candy bars and cookies. This was provided by The Dessert Studio owned by Bunmi Odulana.Finger foods and drinks were also severed while a group of four violinists from Perfect 4th String Quartert played soft tunes on the background.
OLU JACOBS&JOKE SILVA HONOURED RITA DOMINIC
To have the Most celebrated veteran actors and couple Olu Jacobs and Joke Silva at your event means they hold you in very high regard. And at the Surulere premiere, these veterans’ stars took time out to come party with Rita. She was filled with joy when they arrived and did usher them in herself. They had a great time as they chatted away happily and warmly received all the practitioners who came to exchange greetings.
THELMA OKODUWA PARTIED WITH HUBBY
Delectable actress and queen of soaps Thelma Okoduwa came with her hubby.The light skinned beauty is a good friend of Rita and she did come to support her dear friend. We gathered she has temporarily relocated to Lagos as she is working on some projects with Mnet which is still under wraps. She looked lovely in her long African print and stayed beside her husband all through.
ALL HAIL AFRICA MAGIC
Give it to Africa Magic, they are not just the biggest entertainment TV channel in Africa but the biggest supporters of entertainment especially movies. At the premiere, Africa Magic was well represented by the delectable Wangi Mba Uzoukwu,the regional Director of Mnet/Africa Magic among few others. The ever cheerful lady is well loved by many movie practitioners in Nigeria on account of the support she showers on them through the Africa Magic platform. Co producer of the movie Mildred Okwo revealed during her speech that Africa Magic played a huge role in making the Movie Surulere a reality .The pretty Wangi has a gentle mien that endears her to many. Dressed in a simple but lovely long dress, she practically wore a smile all through the event.
PRAIZ& ARAMIDE ENTERTAINED
The premiered kicked off after a short speech by Mildred Okwo,a wave making filmmaker and co producer of the movie Surulere who narrated her experience with Surulere and acknowledged all those who made the movie a reality. She also sent out a special message to her 80 year old mum Mrs Marie Okwo who was present at the event. After her speech, award winning musician Praiz and Aramide took turns to entertain guests before the movie screening.
AFTER PARTY WITH DJ JIMMY JAT
Synonymous with The Audrey Silva Company premieres, the real fun always comes at the after party and this premiere was no exception. Immediately after the cast of Surulere took a bow, all guests retired into another dimly lit and all white posh hall for an after party with Dj Jimmy Jatt on the wheel of steel. It was time to party and let loose, with free flow of champagne and other cognacs. A lot of stars were captured dancing their hearts out.

He recently featured in a new hit movie titled 76 where he played the role of an army office, alongside the celebrant Rita. They have come a long way in movies hence his presence at the premiere.
